Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority – Fortinet Network Security Implementation
This project involved the deployment of Fortinet devices, including a clustered pair of FortiGate 600E firewalls, to enhance network security and achieve compliance for the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority (TTCAA). The firewalls were configured in an Active-Passive cluster to ensure high availability, utilizing dual 1Gbps connections for heartbeat synchronization.
The implementation integrated multiple components into a secure framework, including TTCAA's LAN and wireless networks, WAN edge, and distinct DMZ environments for access control, server resources, and surveillance systems. This comprehensive approach reinforced TTCAA’s network perimeter, improved traffic management, and ensured reliable protection for internal and external network interactions.
Ministry of Agriculture Land & Fisheries, Land & Survey Division - Network Upgrade Port of Spain, Trinidad.
The client needed a solution to improve on network availability, performance and reliance. Their existing topology was flat and comprised of unmanaged switches. To achieve the desired objectives a two-tier hierarchical design was employed. Catalyst 2960X switches were deployed on the floors which were then aggregated to a Catalyst 2960XR layer 3 back in the server room. Floor switches were uplinked using EtherChannel technology, increasing throughput back to the core/distribution switch. To assist with traffic segmentation VLANs were configured on the switches.
Judiciary (Hall of Justice) – Switching Infrastructure upgrade and VOIP Project. Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Spearheaded the upgrade, configuration, testing, and installation of over twenty Access Layer switches, which was pivotal to the client's Voice-over-IP (VoIP) initiative. Strategic planning and meticulous execution of this essential phase, ensured seamless integration of VoIP across the network infrastructure.
Toyota Network Support for Virtualization Project Barataria, Trinidad.
The client needed a solution that would improve on performance and reliability and reduce the overall footprint in their Datacentre. Also required was a disaster recovery site in the event of any unwanted failure at the Head Office. All the servers within the environment were physical and not up to date. My primary role in this project was to provide networking support for the Virtualization Engineer, who was tasked with the virtualization, backup and recovery solution. Some of the required task were:
1. Configure Policy Routing with IP SLA and object tracking to ensure that the data being replicated from the Head Office to the Disaster Recovery site utilized a specific link to avoid impeding performance of regular user traffic during working hours.
2. Configure the SAN and server switches at Head Office and Remote sites
3. Uplink the server infrastructure to the Core Switches using Fibre as the primary link and copper as the secondary link for fail over.
4. Assist in the physical installation of the equipment at the Head Office and Remote sites.
TOSL Wireless Bridge Project Marabella, Trinidad.
This client needed a solution that would connect two Local Area Networks (LAN) segments which were geographically separated. Because of the distance limitation of copper and the expensive cost to install fibre, an alternative method was required.
A wireless bridge was built using two 1Gbps wireless radios. Both Radios were aligned and installed on the top of the building of the desired sites. To ensure 100% link uptime and minimize link failure consideration had to be given to obstacles between the sites and ensure under no circumstance an object (moving or stagnant) encroached more than 40% of the first Fresnel zone.
The Children's Authority: Network Upgrade Port of Spain, Trinidad.
This project involved upgrading the client's network from a flat topology with unmanaged switches to a more robust and resilient network. The network components were made up of Cisco Small Business and Catalyst switches and 4000 and 800 Series ISR routers. Some remote sites were connected via service provider Metro-E while some were connected via IPsec VPN through the Internet. To ensure confidentiality through the Service Provider's network, routers were configured to dynamically build GRE tunnels and encrypt the data. Quality of Service was also employed to ensure delay sensitive traffic were given priority.
Regus: Wireless site survey (Predictive)
Assisted the client with Wi-Fi network planning using the Ekahau site survey tool. This gave the client an idea of how many AP's would be required to support high speed data for approximately 200 devices.
Proper AP placement was also determined based on wall material and office layout.
Venture Credit Union: Wireless site survey (Post Deployment Survey) Couva, Trinidad.
This survey involved verifying the wireless network to ensure it operated at the required level. Both passive and active surveys were conducted. The passive survey measured signal strength and noise level and the Active Survey measured throughput rates, round-trip time and packet lost.
