Being a Highly-motivated individual with a desire to take on new challenges in the field of being the Project Coordinator - Literacy and Numeracy Remediation. It is desirous to be able to function in this new sphere of the education system seeking to impact and influence those students who are in need of additional assistance and teachers who are seeking to inspire differently those left behind. Strong work ethics, adaptability and exceptional interpersonal skills are just a few of the positive attitudes presented. I am a believer in me and the ability to make changes in the lives of the remedial recipients. Having done this before and is prepared to do so on a larger scale, God being my helper.
I am adept at working effectively, unsupervised and quickly mastering new skills in establishing relationships with the relevant personnels in the MOE. Professionally, offerings in educational studies in administration and school systems coupled with the many years of experience in working generally with the the challenged learners, will add value to the Remedial Program and by extension the MOE. Since the institution is in need of an individual with great collaboration, interpersonal and multitasking abilities, all these skills are present in Mrs. Sharon Charles-Bain, down to earth with people and a team-builder.
During this period, institution enjoyed teacher training in latest methodology in teaching, health and safety in property and personnels and proper assessment and feedback. In addition, a number of fund raisers coupled with graduation were effectively maneuvered. In our first year of existence, two students wrote SEA and were placed successfully in secondary school.
As Coordinator of the Faith-Based, non-profit community program, students with literacy and numeracy deficiency were majorly the participants. Here emphasis was placed on reading, reading comprehension, answering questions appropriately orally and then writing responses.
Every year vacation camp was conducted with themes in literacy and numeracy where participants were trained in coral speaking, public speaking, writing of poetry and numeracy games. Participants were made aware that numbers is not just numbers, but life. This HWC was very successful as participants from varying schools and classes were involved. Staff were highly qualified and understood the vision of the centre and worked accordingly.
This institution was one in which testing in reading disability was done using the dyslexia Aston Index kit. Participants were taken through the screening process and diagnosed for language disability. Reports were then compiled, discussed with parents for further working.
On becoming manager of school football was a challenge in bringing football from suspension to becoming the premier team in the zone in all age groups. At first, fitness and discipline was goal-oriented for winning cannot be achieved without these characteristics. Emphasis was placed on obedience and following instructions, respect for oneself, team members, management, administration and anyone in authority and finally for heir school work. This was reinforced daily by management and the reward was astounding. This continued for five years while in management position.
As Centre Coordinator, there was a level of unity and understanding amongst lecturers, students, counselors and administrator of Centre. Together achievement and participation level was high and students were excited to invite their friends to be apart of said program. During this short stint, growth was seen in performance of students grade and increase in numbers.
Collaboration was done weekly with head office and property manager of rental.
As Adjunct Lecturer, lectures in Research Methods, Educational Psychology, Sociology, Child Psychology, History of Education, Technology in Education and many more were done. These course of study were totally enjoyed by students as they were highly participative in the lectures. Differing methodologies were used to which the students were highly appreciative.
Many of these skills will be handled competently, coupled with those possessed in Literacy and Numeracy to ensure positive outcome as scheduled
