Work history

Love it with my all-primary level teacher

Self employed
San Fernando, Trinidad
2008.01 - Current
  • Conducted 18 years of after school tutoring sessions to both thriving and struggling primary school students
  • Learnt to be a classroom mummy to primary school students. (the one thing my degree did not prepare me for...but my students nurtured in me, over time! lol😊)
  • Paid deliberate individual attention to primary school students who felt they were not being seen, sufficiently, in the public school system.
  • Encouraged struggling and shy classroom learners to teach me, how to teach them best! (wisest decision I ever made as a teacher!)
  • Prioritized listening to the way in which primary level students of diverse learning intelligences and needs wanted to be taught. (this one humbled me as a teacher, early on in my 18-year teaching journey)
  • Provided a competitive, "keep me on my toes" classroom environment for the faster, adaptive, top achiever learner. (more so for upper primary level students yearning for such)
  • Motivated struggling and 'suffer in silence' primary level students to feel free to express themselves and believe in themselves! (this, gives me a sense of satisfaction, the most)
  • Taught students, not just reading, but how to read!
  • Fostered hands on, quirky yet mixed with a bit of traditional, intervention strategies for children demonstrating learning difficulties at reading, math, grammar, comprehension, spelling, vocabulary and writing.
  • Adapted lesson materials to accommodate diverse learning needs of both neurotypical primary learners and neurodivergent primary learners. (a hobby of mine, if am not swimming or writing poetry)
  • Monitored student responses to learning activities and adjusted such approaches, using both traditional and innovative tricks that make schoolwork seem 'like a breeze!'
  • Integrated technology into lessons to make subjects more appealing to today's tech-savvy students. (which proved to be a saviour, particularly during the pandemic when I taught students, online, solely).
