MARISSA YOUNG-AFOON

Piarco

Summary

Accomplished Chemistry Teacher offering nineteen (19) years of experience developing chemistry curriculum and providing personable instruction to students. My teaching philosopy has always been as a lighthouse because it is important that I guide students through the learning process, just as a lighthouse helps sailors, towards the pathway to success. Sometimes, the students’ paths might be rough and tough, just like those of a sailor, but the end result, whether it is learning a new concept or reaching land, it is worth it. Good teaching should not just include the essential elements that are conducive to learning but being a caring, understanding, good listener and role model to my students. I believe to stimulate effective learning, I should present a curriculum that will incorporate different learning styles, hands-on learning, group work, projects, technology integration, and individual work that engage and activate students learning in a classroom that is a safe, caring community where they can blossom.
